Turn a phrase into a question

Ask what a phrase means, request a simpler explanation or explore a different wording. Assistant gives you space for a follow-up when a single translated sentence does not answer what you wanted to know.

Try the words before the moment

You might ask how to order a coffee politely or how to phrase a short thank-you. Treat the answer as a starting point, check anything that matters and bring your own context into the conversation.

Keep the conversation on your device

Assistant uses the downloaded model on your iPhone. Your prompts and answers are processed locally and conversations are saved in the app. Product analytics and diagnostics are separate from this content; the privacy policy explains those data paths.

A little preparation

Start with what you want to say

  1. Complete offline setup

    Download the translator model while connected and unlock Premium. Assistant uses that same downloaded model.

  2. Ask a focused question

    Name the language and the situation. For example, ask for help phrasing a polite coffee order rather than asking for an entire travel itinerary.

  3. Follow up and verify

    Ask for an explanation or another wording. Review the answer carefully. Assistant can sound confident while making a mistake.

A few things to know

Can it find a restaurant or check train times?
It cannot browse the web, check your location or provide live information such as opening hours, directions or timetables. Use a current map or travel service for those details.
Is Assistant the same as Translate?
Translate is for converting text between selected languages. Assistant is a conversational AI for questions and wording. Both use on-device processing, but their outputs can differ and should be checked.
Does my conversation go to an AI service?
Assistant messages and responses are processed on your device. They are excluded from the app’s analytics and diagnostic events. See the privacy policy for the separate setup, purchase and telemetry connections.
